Scholastic Art Contest

Good Morning!

I would like to share some GREAT news from the art program. This year is a really special time for our JM Art students because we have several students who earned gold key awards in the National Scholastic Art and Writing Competition. Students who are awarded a  Gold Key move on to the national competition in NYC in March.

It is also amazing that Kalliope Ivari, an 8th grader, got nominated for the American Visions Medal for her painting. This is one of the highest honors and only one student is nominated from NE Ohio region.  I have been working hard to have one of our students achieve this award. These Medalists are celebrated during National Events and at the National Exhibition in New York City. I can't wait to hear about the results in February. In the meantime, there will be an award ceremony on January 26, 2019 at YSU in the Ford Theater. You are invited to join the ceremony. The following students will also have their artwork displayed in Bliss Hall this month.

 I would like to congratulate:

  • David Vega (2 gold keys, 1 silver key, and honorable mention)
  • Grace McDevitt (1 gold key & 1 silver key)
  • Marisa Jonesco (1 silver key & 1 honorable mention)
  • Brianna Shannon (1 silver key)
  • Kalliope Ivari (2 gold keys and nominated for the American Visions Award)

Thank you for always supporting the art program and allowing these students to shine and display their talent!  Attached is all of the the artwork that received awards.

Sincerely,

Katelyn Amendolara

Hooked on Fishing 2018

JACKSON-MILTON SCHOOLS
HOOKED ON FISHING

A successful fishing trip for 57 seventh grade students at Jackson-Milton Middle School.

Students spent June 5th at the Lake Milton Fish and Game Club for the annualHooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs Trip. The goal of the day was for students to realize there are things they can do for fun that don’t involve drugs or alcohol.

Before students started fishing, there was a discussion about peer pressure and the effects it can have on students.

“I want them to understand why we are actually here, and also remind them that the staff is here for them, and they can ask for help any time,” said Anne Downs, Drug Free Coordinator for JMMS.

The Lake Milton Fish and Game Club in Lake Milton not only hosted students, but members also joined in on the day, helping students with tangled lines and any fishing pole issues. Anonymous donors also donated supplies, and funding from the Students Taking A New Direction account (STAND), covered other expenses.Hooked on Fishing 2018

Softball/Baseball Fund Raiser May 5th

Once again baseball and softball will be holding a Strike out for Cancer in memory of Our dear friend Tiffany Obradovich  .. The money we raise will go to Tiffany's butterfly effect and it's ear marked to be donated to wigs for kids.  This year the two teams will be competing against each other to collect sponsors for hits/runs ... If baseball wins by collecting the most donations they will each pie a softball player or coach... and vice versa. We will be playing at Home May 5th at 5pm.  At the game we will be selling 50\50 tickets.  Come out and watch us play! That's free!

This darn Ohio weather!   Not looking so great for our game on Friday.  If we don't play it Friday my current new plan is to play it next Thursday when we make up the WR game under the lights at Ellsworth park on 45, game time is TBA.  You can still make your contribution to either the baseball or softball team (losers get pied).  All donations go to Tiffany's Butterfly effect.

Pizza Hut Fund Raiser April 26

Wednesday, April 26th from 6-9 pm Pizza Hut in Austintown is hosting a fundraiser for Austintown Relay for Life.  Team JM-NHS will earn 10% credit for each flyer returned.  Please see the school website or your child's school email to print and present the flyer.  The fundraiser is good on dine in and carry out orders.

Varsity Football Post Season 2016

Our Varsity Football Team has qualified for the playoffs again this year.  We will be playing at Mogadore High School on Saturday November 5th at 7:00 PM.

A few items...

1. Tickets can be purchased off of me starting Wednesday morning.  All tickets are $8.00 a piece for students, adults and senior citizens.  This will save you money and also make the school some money.

2.  We are doing a spirit bus for this game with the bus leaving from the high school at 5:45.  Please let me know who is willing to ride the bus with the high school students.  Parking is not easy at their stadium so unless you plan on getting their early this is the much better option.  Please let me know by November 2nd if you plan on volunteering for the spirit bus.

3.  There will be a bonfire at the football stadium on Friday to celebrate the team from 7 to 9 PM.

Mr. Hogue's Sports Update

10/10/2016

Our sports teams have enjoyed much success over the past couple of weeks.  We are ended some seasons already and the OHSAA State Tournaments and Playoffs are about to begin.

Cross Country-  Our cross country team has continued to be on a roll lately. Many of our runners did well at the Mahoning County Meet and the ITCL League Championships.

Co-Ed Soccer-  Senior night was held last week and the band was part of this.  It was a great event for all student-athletes as our 5 seniors were honored.  They will be playing Garrettsville Garfield next Tuesday the 18th at 7:00 PM in the first round of the playoffs.

Volleyball- This is the last week of the regular season and our girls are poised to at least capture a share of the ITCL Blue Tier Title.  Tonight, is senior night for the girls and all 7 of our seniors will be honored.

Football-  The Football Team is currently 5-2 and ranked 6th in their region and continues to make a push for the OHSAA playoffs for the second time in school history.  This past week we scored our 10,000 point in school history!  They play  on the road against our rivals (Western Reserve) this week and then are home the following week against Lowellville.  We will be having a pink out for the Lowellville so get out your pink to support breast cancer.

Yours in Sports,

Kevin Hogue
