Congratulations Jackson-Milton Middle School!

Jackson-Milton Middle School is a 2019 Momentum Award recipient by the State Board of Education of Ohio.

According to the Ohio Department of Education’s website, “The Momentum Award is presented by the State Board of Education and recognizes schools for exceeding expectations in student growth for the year. Schools must earn straight A’s on all Value-Added measures on the report card. The school or district must have at least two Value-Added subgroups of students, which includes gifted, lowest 20% in achievement, and students with disabilities.”

“Congratulations to our staff and students. This honor is a perfect example of the dedicated staff and caring students that we have here in Blue Jay Country,” said Kirk Baker, Superintendent, Jackson-Milton Schools.

Only six schools in Mahoning County received the momentum award, including Jackson-Milton Middle School. This is the second year in a row, Jackson-Milton Middle School has received a Momentum Award.

Listen to Leslie

Second and third grade students at Jackson-Milton Elementary School went home with a special gift today, their own copy of the book, Listen to Leslie.

Diane Demetrios of  Boardman, wrote the book in memory of her daughter who passed away.  The book is Diane’s way of getting an anti-bullying message out to elementary children, and honor her daughter. The main take home message stresses the importance of being kind to everyone.

The book is part of Let’s Make a Difference (LMD), a non-profit in Northeast Ohio. LMD focuses on bullying prevention. Wednesday  afternoon, the Demetrios family read Listen to Leslie to second and third grade students at JMES, and sent them  home with a copy of the book
